Some 15 000 car drivers used Riga public transport free of charge on "Day without a car"

According to the data of "Rīgas satiksme", some 15 000 car drivers in Riga used public transport free of charge after presenting registration certificates of their cars on September 22, the "Day without a car", an event organised by the Transport Department of Riga City Council.

Vadims Baraņņiks, chairman of the Communications and Transport Committee of Riga City Council, believes it was a success: "We can see that quite many people are ready to change their cars for public transport. We hope that it will urge a part of Rigans to revise their habits and take trams, trolleybuses and buses more frequently instead of their cars."

The "Day without a car" was organised as part of the European Mobility Week, with the main purpose of urging people to use alternative means of transportation.
